Since 1991, Duy Thai has been advising and representing companies at all stages of their development in intellectual property, corporate, securities and executive compensation matters.  Duy began his practice at Bingham McCutchen in San Francisco where he practiced for seven years before opening his own business law firm in the City.  Many of his clients have come from the high-technology, Internet, and e-commerce industries.

Duy’s diverse intellectual property experience extends from trademark prosecution to licensing, litigation and PTO inter partes proceedings, and has included:

• Negotiating and drafting intellectual property, e-commerce, and high-technology-related agreements on behalf of a major consumer e-commerce company and a software publisher
• Advising start-up companies on corporate formation, financing, intellectual property, and licensing issues. 
• Representing technology company executives on employment, compensation, and securities issues. 
• Managing an international trademark portfolio for a newly-public biotech company. 
• Executing one of the first domain name trademark enforcement programs on behalf of a prominent Internet company. 
• In litigation, winning summary judgment for an information services company in a complex software licensing, copyright, and trade secrets case.

Duy is a 1991 graduate of UC Berkeley’s Boalt Hall School of Law where he won the Prosser Prize in Criminal Law.  He obtained his B.A., magna cum laude, from Trinity University

He has served on the boards of the Vietnamese-American Bar Association of Northern California and the Northern California Lawyers for Civil Justice, and as a panel attorney and program speaker for California Lawyers for the Arts.   He speaks French, Vietnamese, and Spanish.
